Great things you can do to your Hummer

The new Super Swampers 38x12.50x16.50 are fantastic! And 1 inch taller than the stock Hummer tires.  They preform so well in the mud it is hard to believe! In serious Mud my old GSAs just spun and gave me no traction, I hate it when I turn the steering wheel and the truck keeps going straight! The swampers are AMAZING, no more being afraid of the mud! The Swampers are not as good as the GSAs were in the soft sand however and they are much noisier on the road (sounds like an airplane is chasing me! I like it! ).....

The new snorkel, it is two of the 4 inch rubber sewer pipe extentions (like I had one of before) with a piece of 4 inch PVC in between them.. I smashed this against some pretty big tree limbs on the big Texas outing and didnt have a problem with it.... BTW the snorkel is for accidental waves and/or splashes, it does ot mean you can go through water all the way up to the mushroom.. It's just a precaution!

OK, all you Hummer owners already know about the cruddy drink holders in the glove box door on Hummer model years 1992 through 1995. The little Hingy things come off the glove box door, they don't spring up sometimes, and they are just generally NO GOOD! Here is what I did to hold my drinks and this works VERY WELL even offroad!
Picture 1 here is the top of the middle console and I started by drilling a starter hole and cutting the circle with a sharp razor knife... I bought the drink holders at a marine supply store for $2 each! Picture 2 shows the drink cups and they press fit down into the hole, so don't cut the hole too big! Also watch the clearance of the bottom of the driver side cup holder because it is VERY close to the radio! I had to modify the bottom of the driver side cup holder so it would fit perfectly without touching the radio...

Here is the finished drink holders! and they are great! Hold large Coke bottles (the plastic 1 liter bottles). and just about anything else! I have gone over some pretty big bumps without spilling a drop...

Here is the Hummer in our shop, I am starting to design the overhead console to hold all the fun electronics.... Here is a BEFORE shot of the truck with the top off...

Here is a picture of one of the test fittings of the overhead...I didn't think I would like an overhead console with the opentop but this test fitting looks like I might like it alot. There is still plenty of open space above my head with the trucks top off. The console comes out 1 ft from the top of the window, in a normal car or truck this wouldn't work at all, but in this truck it puts the gear in front fo the driver at a great easy to see place without haveing to move your head to far off the road while driving... I think it may work out well. Next step is to upholster it.

Here is a picture of my budget air intake riser. Comercial ones I have seen are several hundred bucks! I fashioned this out of a rubber sewer pipe extension from the hardware store (about $10) and you can easily make it as tall as you want with a piece of PVC pipe. It attaches with large hose clamps just like the original Hummer part. If water gets to the top of this you are in trouble.. As you may have seen some of the military ones have this above the roof of the truck.

Here are some of the antenna mounts on my truck, some folks have asked to see pictures of them. I have a convertable Hummer and there is no solid roof or roof rack to mount a bunch of antennas or lights so I have to be creative.... I have also thought of mounting an antenna on the Hummer grill guard up front but havent explored that possibility yet... has anyone else mounted one up front on the grill guard? The first picture is the rear view of the Hummer I took this shot so you could see how the 9 ft CB whip looks. I lie the short fiberglass antenna there for convenience but everyone says the 9ft steel whip looks better....I just have to remember to fold it down before I close the garage door on it (again)... The next picture is a closeup of the bumper mount, I just attached the mirror mount bracket to the bumper bolt, it is very sturdy. The next picture is the front widnsheild mount for my Ham Radio antenna. I usually have a tri-band antenna that folds down mounted here but today I have the 1200MHz antenna screwed on here.... Next picture is the police Scanner antenna, it is a magnetic mount and it sticks on the metal brace for the convertible hummer rear roll bar...

This is Patricks 96 Hummer with a GPS and Notebook computer with Delorme software, I also have this setup in my truck and it really is nice to have every street in the USA handy.
